How to add EntityObject Generator in Visual Studio 2015?

c# entity-framework entity-framework-6 windows-applications

Question

I've set up Visual Studio 2015 with the most recent Entity Framework version (EntityFramework.6.1.3). I removed the two.tt files (edmx_file_name.tt and edmx_file_name.Context.tt) that were in the DBContext and added the EF to the project.

Now that the model is open in the EF Designer, I'm attempting to add the EF 6.x code generation template by right-clicking on the design surface and choosing Add Item for Code Generation.

I must install the EF 6.x EntityObject Generator in order to add Code Generation to the ObjectContext. I got it off of here.

However, I was unable to install it with VS 2015.

How can I fix this?

The alternative solution is to open your solution in Visual Studio 2013, then open your edmx diagram, right-click, and select "Add Code generation Item." If you can't see "EF 6.X EntityObject Generator," go to the "online" menu, and you'll see "EF 6.x EntityObject Generator For C#" display. This is because no EntityObject Generator Template is currently supported in Visual Studio 2015. To include the EntityObject Generator in your data access layer project, choose it and then click the "Add" button. For you, the tt will automatically construct EntityObject classes. To leave Visual Studio 2013, save the project. With Visual Studio 2015, reopen the solution. Done.
